Encouraging a felt sense of emotional freedom

Encouraging a felt sense of emotional freedom

Cody Gauthier

My specialties and the extensive training I have in trauma healing modalities, somatic therapies, and alike, serve the central goal of helping us discover and build a relationship with our whole self. To feel more safe in your body is a journey. To connect with parts of yourself that may have felt lost or exiled is a vulnerable undertaking. We are all doing our best. My hope as your therapist is to grow your capacity to take care of yourself and the people you love.

    • EMDR trauma resolution

    • Somatic Experiencing (certified and licensed)

    • Internal Family Systems (certified and licensed)

    • Addiction recovery

    • Eating disorder recovery

    • Gestalt trained

  • I have extensive experience working in residential, inpatient, outpatient, and hospital settings treating teenagers, their families, and adults with addiction and mental health concerns.

I earned a Bachelors in Psychology and Addiction Studies from Keene State College, completed my Masters Degree in Clinical Social work with a concentration in Group Work from the University of Connecticut with a specialization in trauma and addictions.

  • My abbreviated story of becoming a therapist stemmed from the admiration I had for my guidance counselor who was not only a role model for me, but one of the kindest people I had ever come across. I remember thinking to myself “Is this really a job?”, as he was sitting at lunch with us and sparking conversation to help some of us feel more comfortable in a group setting. I feel like to this day I resonate deeply with this human need to feel included, seen, validated, and that we all matter.

  • I grew up in the middle of now in the woods of New Hampshire which helped me appreciate nature and has inspired many of my active hobbies. I have lived in the south bay for 5 years now and I still love and enjoy every sunset, year round sports, and food that isn’t classic American or fried fish! I’m thankful for my friends, my girlfriend, and the life I’ve created out here in the south bay, as well as the life I can go back to in New Hampshire.

Choosing to ask for help from a therapist is a difficult, yet incredibly brave decision. My goal is to provide a safe, warm, and judgment-free space for clients to bring forward any challenge or circumstance they feel the need to process through. My approach to therapy is deeply rooted in compassion, empathy, open-mindedness, and developing a trusting relationship. I strive to help clients to increase self-awareness, identify their own innate resilience and strengths, and thus empower them to create meaningful transformation in their lives. There is always hope for healing.

  • In my practice, I use attachment therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and somatic experiencing to aid in the therapeutic process. However, my approach is collaborative and personalized to the specific needs of each client. I am experienced in helping those facing anxiety disorders, eating disorders, athletic challenges, chronic pain and injuries, depression, and trauma-related issues. As a high-level athlete and someone who has fully recovered from an eating disorder myself, I am open to sharing my experience with clients if it proves relevant or helpful.

  • I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA), a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and Management from UCLA, and a Master’s Degree in Integrative Social Work from the University of Southern California (USC).

  • Through multiple lived experiences that lead me to seek my own therapy, I became fascinated by the therapeutic process. I've discovered limitless value in being able to name my own emotional experiences, process them, allow them to move through my mind and body, and then show up more authentically in my life as a result of increased awareness.

I hope to give all my clients the same opportunity to experience increased awareness, self-actualization, and an embodiment of true authenticity. Moving through pain, suffering, trauma, or grief and emerging on the other side to re-experience joy, inspiration, expansiveness, peace, and freedom... there is truly nothing like it, and I feel blessed to be a part of this beautiful process with others.

  • I grew up in sunny San Diego, and have lived a vibrant, active lifestyle ever since I was young. I played collegiate Division I beach volleyball in college, and I'm currently a professional beach volleyball athlete playing on the domestic AVP tour and the international FIVB tour. Therefore, I love working with athletes in the therapeutic space. I love traveling, writing poetry, engaging with my community through movement and outdoor activities, exploring art and live music, and remaining connected with my wonderful friends in the South Bay.

Life is beautiful, messy, and sometimes overwhelming. If you’re here, you may be carrying something heavy or seeking a space to grow and heal. You don’t have to do it alone.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I help individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges with clarity, confidence, and connection. My approach is warm, collaborative, and real—creating a safe, judgment-free space for healing. Whether you’re facing past wounds, relationship struggles, or cultural identity challenges, I’m here to walk alongside you. Let’s take this journey together.

    • Children’s Therapy – Helping kids with behavioral issues, emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, and learning disabilities. I collaborate with families to create effective, family-centered treatment plans.

    • Trauma Recovery – Using EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to heal past wounds and build resilience.

    • Anxiety & Depression – Supporting emotional well-being and breaking limiting patterns.

    • Faith & Spiritual Integration – Incorporating faith-based principles for those who desire.

    • Cultural Identity & Bicultural Stress – Supporting individuals balancing two cultures and family expectations.

  • As a school counselor, I provide academic advising and psychosocial support for K-8 students, collaborating with parents and faculty to address school-related concerns. Before this, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from Cal State Fullerton and worked in business administration. Drawn to human connection, I pursued my Master’s in Clinical Counseling at Hope International University, solidifying my passion for mental health.

  • I believe in the power of healing, growth, and connection. I’ve seen how unresolved pain can shape our lives—but I’ve also witnessed how healing can bring freedom. As a wife and mom, I understand the complexities of relationships, parenting, and personal growth. I know the weight of responsibilities, the struggle with self-doubt, and the fear of not doing enough. (Spoiler: You are.)

Life can be overwhelming, but with the right support, it can also be filled with meaning, joy, and deep connection. Therapy helps you rediscover your strength, heal from what’s holding you back, and create the life and relationships you truly want. Every person’s story is unique, and it’s an honor to walk alongside my clients as they find clarity, embrace their true selves, and step into wholeness.

  • When I’m not in session, I’m chasing my kids, sipping tea or coffee, or diving into a creative project. My life is full of beautiful chaos, and family keeps me grounded. I understand the ups and downs of relationships, parenting, and personal growth.

I have a deep love for fashion, music, and creative expression. Fashion is my happy place—it’s about confidence, self-expression, and embracing who you are. I’m also passionate about holistic wellness, the mind-body connection, and integrative mental health. My faith shapes how I live with purpose, gratitude, and a heart for serving others. Creativity, wellness, and connection all play a role in healing, and I love helping others discover their own path to growth and wholeness.
